- ➤ The Capital Region Chamber graduated its 50th cohort from its 10-week Entrepreneur Boot Camp that offers business education and support while having helped about 1,500 local entrepreneurs. The next session will begin Monday, Feb. 9 (sponsored by Sunmark Credit Union’s business plan competition for seed funding and prizes). WNYT

- ➤ This winter term, the Department of Theater and Dance hosts guest artists on campus. The Paperhand Puppet Project works with students Jan. 11-25 for performances from Jan. 22, Barkha Dance Company presents work Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in Yulman Theatre, and Stephanie Pizzo debuts a student dance Mar. 4-7. - ➤ A Schenectady mother organized a peaceful rally on Thursday after a photo showed her second-grade son (with ADHD) allegedly stepped on at Lincoln Elementary before Christmas; she said he is okay but will transfer schools while she seeks accountability from the district. CBS 6 Albany

- ➤ Ashok Ramasubramanian, a longtime faculty member appointed dean of engineering in fall 2023, was recently elected to a Town Council seat in Niskayuna. He has worked at Union for over 18 years — focusing on environmental protection and community service while living with his nurse wife and two school-age kids. Union College
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mental health experts and a retired police captain say the system of sending officers on crisis calls should improve as state law allows detaining individuals for evaluation, and alternative models using trained crisis teams are being considered in the region. CBS 6 Albany
