  • The Cueman family from Niskayuna (with two children) returns home today after nearly a week stranded in Puerto Rico due to canceled flights linked to an international capture, and they stayed with friends while managing extra costs and delays.  WNYT
  • Market 32 and Price Chopper donated $53,817 to Disabled American Veterans after a successful November round-up campaign — $43,817 was raised from 129 stores and a $10,000 corporate match will help provide no-cost, lifetime support to veterans and their families.  CBS 6 Albany

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Avelo Airlines will exit the DHS charter program by Jan. 27 and cancel Albany to Raleigh flights by Jan. 26 to cut costs. New York officials say the change may lower Albany International Airport’s revenue (with new routes expected soon).  CBS 6 Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Schenectady County finished one round of bedbug treatment at Schaffer Heights leased office space on Jan. 2 and will follow up Monday — county staff have been temporarily relocated while officials work with building management to resolve the issue.  WNYT
  • Gov. Kathy Hochul announced New York will invest $68M in grants to help 1,300 households (including seniors and veterans) get emergency repairs and accessibility upgrades. The awards, coming from state and federal programs, include $12.7M for the Capital Region and $16.9M for the North Country.  WNYT
