COMMUNITY NEWS

  • TDX fraternity members have worked with City Mission Schenectady to volunteer and support families in need (helping with emergency shelters, meals, and long-term programs). They plan to inspire more students to serve their community.  Concordiensis

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Music Department will host a winter concert series beginning with Zakuro-Daiko’s 'Playing with the Planets' on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium in the Taylor Music Center, with additional performances scheduled through March.  Union College

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New York approved a 2,666-acre solar project in Glen that will supply power for over 33,000 homes and create 290 construction jobs, with the facility scheduled to be operational by 2027. Local officials warn that reduced tax revenue may hurt community growth and talks on a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes will begin soon.  CBS 6 Albany

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Judith Lewin, an English professor and department chair at Union, gained her first brush with harsh winter conditions when a snowblock on Amtrak nearly delayed her interview in 2000. She now teaches literature courses and mentors students while researching Jewish women's writing (a focus that enriches her long career).  Union College
  • A power outage hit Hamilton Elementary, Van Corlaer Elementary, and Steinmetz Freshman Leadership Academy — National Grid expects to restore power by 12:45 p.m. Students remain safe and officials will decide by 10:30 a.m. if early dismissal is needed.  CBS 6 Albany
  • Professor Walker at Union College advises students to shift focus from appearance to how their bodies function as trends like skinny-tok fuel harmful comparisons. She recommends mindful social media breaks and outdoor activities (like walking) to help boost body satisfaction and overall well-being.  Concordiensis

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hochul and DEC announced free fishing days for 2026 that let anglers fish without a license on Feb. 14–15, June 27–28, Sept. 26, and Nov. 11; the initiative gives residents and visitors an affordable way to experience local freshwater waters while following fishing regulations.  CBS 6 Albany
  • Assemblyman Robert Smullen, a congressional candidate, launched attacks against Sticker Mule CEO Anthony Constantino — alleging tax issues and misleading voters. Constantino’s legal team denied the claims and defended his record of overpaying taxes.  CBS 6 Albany
