  • Perreca's Bakery in Little Italy has been family-owned for 106 years and bakes Italian bread in a coal-fired brick oven — it also serves deli items and half-pound butter cream cupcakes, with owner Maria Perreca Papa giving a behind-the-scenes look during a recent report.  CBS 6 Albany

CRIME NEWS

  • Joe Mastroianni, a former Assembly candidate, pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge in Schenectady City Court Monday—he admitted taking a political mailer from Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara’s home in October and will pay $370 in fines and surcharges.  News10 ABC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Schenectady County Recreational Facility in Glenville unveiled its expansion and renovation on Monday — a move that will update the facility for public use.  The Daily Gazette
  • The New York State Attorney General is urging New Yorkers to delete their data from 23andMe after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday. The company will sell substantially all of its assets — including genetic data used for ancestry and health risks, so customers should remove their personal data from their account settings.  News10 ABC
  • Former St. Clare’s Hospital workers sent a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers asking for funds from the state budget to restore a pension plan that lost their retirement savings in 2019. Pension Recovery Alliance Chair Mary Hartshorne said the needed amount increased from $54 million to about $90 million as over 1,100 workers waited for help before the state budget deadline on April 1.  WAMC

  • A group of local axe and knife throwers is preparing for the 2025 World Axe and Knife Throwing Championships in Appleton, Wisconsin from April 3 to 6. Competitors such as Steven Greene of Adirondack Axe, his son Kaden, Nicholas Mead, and first-time thrower Colden Pipek are sharpening their skills — they hope to improve on their performance from last year.  WNYT
