COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Capital Region welcomes a variety of events starting with the Flower & Garden Expo at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and additional activities on Saturday and Sunday include comedy shows in Albany and Schenectady, sports games, festivals, and a parade in Glens Falls—ensuring a busy weekend for local residents.  News10 ABC

CRIME NEWS

  • Schenectady police said a 73-year-old man was found emaciated and weighing only 72 pounds because his caregiver daughter neglected his care — she has been arrested on charges of endangering him.  The Daily Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CDPHP and CDTA announced today the start of the ninth season of CDPHP Cycle! to offer a safe, low-cost, eco-friendly bike ride for locals in Schenectady and nearby communities. The service now has over 600 bikes — including more than 400 e-bikes — and introduces the new Return N Earn program that rewards members with credits for returning bikes outside their usual hubs.  CBS 6 Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The restoration of the Schenectady City Hall clocktower will begin Monday with Mid-State Industries handling repairs through July to preserve a historic landmark.  News10 ABC
  • State lawmakers are pushing to include pension parity for military firefighters in the next state budget due Tuesday after meeting at Stratton Air National Guard Base on March 27th. Assemblyman Santabarbara, Senator Fahy and Senator Skoufis said about 80 firefighters need the same retirement and injury protections as municipal firefighters to address safety and recruitment challenges—efforts they have championed for several years.  WAMC
  • The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee announced a campaign to fight distracted driving that will run from April 7 to 14. State and local police will patrol more and use Operation Hang Up to target drivers using electronic devices while on the road.  CBS 6 Albany
  • Activists led by local organizer Bebhin Francis pushed for a statewide Housing Access Voucher Program to cut homelessness in New York. The state assembly approved the bill on Thursday + now organizers urge Governor Kathy Hochul to allocate $250 million for 20,000 vouchers so more people can get off the streets.  News10 ABC
