CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Schenectady police found two bodies at 1029 Davis Terrace after a welfare call late Wednesday—autopsies showed no signs of trauma and toxicology tests are pending. WNYT
- ➤ On March 21 at 1:23 p.m., the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office responded to a burglary on Stella Lane in Providence where 45-year-old Thomas Toth of Schenectady was arrested on charges of burglary, criminal mischief, petit larceny, criminal contempt, and allegedly violating an order of protection. - ➤ Police arrested 29 year old Eric M. Saunders and 26 year old James C. Newsom after raiding homes in Schenectady that were suspected of selling illegal cannabis—officers say the bust is part of a crackdown on marijuana sales that appear to target youth. CBS 6 Albany
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Schenectady will temporarily delay enforcement for its new bulk trash sticker program as city officials mail residents three free stickers—enforcement will begin in May. The Daily Gazette
- ➤ The New York State Office of Cannabis Management and the New York State Department of Labor unveiled the Responsible Workforce Training Program which requires new workers in licensed cannabis businesses to complete a free, four-part safety training within 30 days of starting their job—this makes New York the first to mandate such training. The courses cover product safety, labor standards and cultural competency to ensure the workforce follows clear safety guidelines. CBS 6 Albany
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The EPA will decide on April 8 if it will ease PFAS drinking water rules that limit chemicals to 4 parts per trillion—a rule affecting over 1.3 million local residents. Health experts warn that a rollback could raise risks of cancer and heart disease (and note that New York’s standard of 10 parts per trillion may not be enough), which may force the state to act for stronger protections.
