  • Patriot Flight sent over 70 Capital Region veterans on an all-expenses-paid trip yesterday from Albany International Airport to Washington, D.C. where the group visited memorials (including Arlington National Cemetery for the Changing of the Guard) honoring service in multiple wars.  CBS 6 Albany
  • Today, NYSID and Success Map Initiative host a discussion at 10 a.m. on second‐chance hiring as founder Trent Griffin-Braaf guides employers on best practices for inclusive workplaces (focusing on disabled and justice-impacted workers).  CBS 6 Albany
  • MHHS in Menands saw its pet food pantry empty on April 15, and community donations quickly arrived + helped families keep feeding their pets. Volunteers and donors stepped in to ease hardships for those struggling to buy pet food.  WNYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Professor Jillmarie Murphy at Union College released a four-volume study titled Women and the Environment in the Long Nineteenth Century, exploring women's roles in wartime, creative, and scientific arenas. The work will be available April 30 through Routledge.  Union College
  • Union will offer voluntary active shooter training led by experts from Campus Safety, Schenectady PD, and County Emergency Management on April 22 and April 24 at Reamer Campus Center Auditorium — the free sessions for faculty, staff and students will teach life-saving techniques using Union-specific scenarios.  Union College

  • Today, NBT Bank is working to fix duplicate transaction issues that have led to overdrafts and duplicate charges for some customers - progress continues as the problem enters its second day.  CBS 6 Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hochul broke ground on Mohawk Heights, a housing development at 1614 State Street that will offer 34 housing units for adults with mental illness and a risk of homelessness. The project will open in early 2027.  WNYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Danielle Litz started a support group at Bellevue Women’s Center in Niskayuna to help parents of NICU babies share advice during stressful hospital stays. She plans to expand the network (to include hospitals across the region) if interest grows.  CBS 6 Albany
