  • Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is hosting the first Autism Acceptance Night today with the NY Phoenix basketball team at the Schenectady Armory Studios Center starting at 6 p.m. The free event requires registration and will offer a sensory-friendly game with adjusted lighting + sound to support attendees with autism and developmental disabilities.  CBS 6 Albany

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sticker Mule in Amsterdam laid off almost 70 workers on Sunday. CEO Anthony Constantino said the company is switching to automation by using about 250 robots—each worker got severance pay—and the change aims to boost how it makes things.  News10 ABC

CRIME NEWS

  • Sincere Cancer, 22, pleaded guilty in Albany County Court on Wednesday to second-degree attempted murder in the 2021 shooting death of 15-year-old Destiny Greene from Shaker High School—he faces up to 25 years with five years of post-release supervision when sentenced on June 18.  WNYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 8, the Niskayuna school board voted to drop the 'Silver Warriors' name due to a statewide mandate and community input; the district will be known as 'Niskayuna' or 'Nisky' for the 2025-26 school year—this move allows time for community discussion—and shows a fresh start for local schools.  CBS 6 Albany
  • A well-known Capital Region restaurateur and SUNY Schenectady graduate will deliver the keynote address at the college’s 55th commencement next month.  The Daily Gazette

  • Union College will host Earth Week events from April 21 to April 27 with activities such as a sustainability film screening, Earth Fest on Hull Plaza, an arbor project, a cleanup at Steinmetz Park and a community trip to a permaculture garden + campus and local groups will work together to raise awareness and support environmental goals.  Union College
