EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Officials confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Russell Sage College and Albany College of Pharmacy will merge and operate under the Russell Sage name with 4,000 students attending in Albany, Troy and online. The full merger will be completed in fall 2027 — making it the third-largest private education institution in the Capital Region — and will combine the strengths of both colleges. WNYT
- ➤ At SUNY Schenectady's Casola Dining Room, students serve a new weekly menu featuring both Regional American and International cuisines, with proceeds used to buy ingredients and support their training; lunch is served Tuesday and Thursday at noon and dinner on Wednesday at 7 p.m. (reservations required two weeks in advance). - ➤ A trash cleanup took place on April 19 on the Hudson—Mohawk Hike—Bike Trail near Seneca Street in Schenectady as volunteers removed litter from the trail. The Daily Gazette
- ➤ The Regional Food Bank celebrated Earth Day at Patroon Land Farm by showcasing eco-friendly improvements made possible through an Innovation Partnership with Albany County + MVP Health Care, and the farm added new greenhouses and high tunnels to boost local produce for nearby food pantries during Volunteer Week. The 162-acre farm, managed by the Food Bank since 2006, plans to build new facilities to further support its volunteer efforts. CBS 6 Albany

- ➤ Scotia-Glenville Central School District installed stop-arm cameras on 30 school buses to curb reckless driving, said transportation supervisor Clara Bisaill—warning drivers between March 31 and April 30 and issuing BusPatrol tickets from May 1—while local police review the footage for valid violations. - ➤ The Schenectady City Council is considering adding fencing and surveillance cameras at an illegal dump site along Wylie Street after more than 40 volunteers cleaned two dumpsters of trash, tires, and half a boat on April 12th. Council members said the cleanup was needed to reduce safety hazards—officials are now working with state agencies to help stop the dumping. CBS 6 Albany
