- ➤ On Arbor Day, Albany City School District students joined Mayor Sheehan and the DEC to plant trees in Albany while the Schenectady County Public Library hosted a free sapling event at its Rotterdam branch from noon to 4 p.m.—remaining trees were later moved to the main branch at 6 p.m. CBS 6 Albany
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Schenectady police investigated two separate homicides in a rare two-day span—on Thursday, officers responded to a call near 1834 Hamburg St. after a person was seen carrying a gun, and on Wednesday, 36-year-old Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. was shot by gunfire outside a deli and grocery store on Van Vranken Ave.; investigators say the cases are not connected. - ➤ David Ayala, 39, received 25 years to life in prison after being convicted for the shooting that killed Matteo Henderson, 26, on Nov. 23 on Odell Street in Schenectady — prosecutors said the attack was retaliation for a previous fight. WNYT
- ➤ Schenectady Police and the sheriff’s department mourned the loss of K-9 Ramo (9) who died suddenly on Thursday evening from aggressive cancer; he served the police since 2017 before moving to the sheriff’s department in 2020, and his name was paired with fellow K-9 Vert to honor Ptl.
