- ➤ The Department of Music announced its spring concert series that will run from May 9 to June 6 at Emerson Auditorium and Memorial Chapel, featuring performances by Union College musicians and student ensembles. - ➤ Colin Gleason, an assistant professor of physics and astronomy at Union, discovered his love for physics in high school when Mr. Bashant’s class made everything click and later earned his Ph.D. after doing summer research and joining the GlueX collaboration; he returned to Union as a tenured professor and lives in Niskayuna with his wife and two children (Henry and Charlotte). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials say New York is switching its Medicaid home care program to a single payroll provider—Public Partnerships, LLC—to fix problems caused by using over 600 companies. Schenectady resident Thomas Grimes and other consumers face ongoing payment and registration issues, and a lawsuit by the Legal Aid Society alleges the changes are risking care for more than 280,000 people. - ➤ Governor Hochul and state lawmakers struck a deal on April 28 on the $254B budget that sets aside $2B for refund checks to help more than 8 million New Yorkers making under $150K a year. The checks — worth between $150 and $400 based on filing type — will be sent automatically from tax returns once the budget is approved and signed into law. News10 ABC
