- ➤ Delightful Run for Women awarded $12,000 to local nonprofits at a press conference at the Capital District YMCA in Guilderland. Winners include Girls on the Run Capital Region, United Way of the Greater Capital Region, Russell Sage College Foundation, and the Capital District YMCA—registration for the 47th run is open online until May 28 and in person until May 30. - ➤ On Friday, May 16, NEWS10 In Your Town will visit Meat & Company in Niskayuna as reporter Cassie Hudson covers the local restaurant where owner Ben Albright prepares to mark one year of service with gourmet sandwiches like the fan favorite Porchetta at 2321 Nott Street East (in the plaza with Market 32). CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Glenville woman (29) who pled guilty to second-degree vehicular assault for driving while impaired and causing a wrong-way crash on the Thruway near Exit 24 in October 2024 was sentenced Tuesday in Albany County Court to serve between one year and four years in state prison. News10 ABC
- ➤ 29-year-old Alexandria McCumber from Glenville was sentenced to 1-4 years in state prison for a DWI wrong-way crash on I-90 on Oct. 12 that left another driver critically injured — police reported the victim needed emergency care — and state officials prosecuted the case. CBS 6 Albany
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hudson Valley Community College is offering free summer courses for New York high school juniors and seniors that cover up to eight credits and include tuition, books, and fees paid by a scholarship. Registration is open online until June 23 and students registered by June 26 will have textbooks shipped — courses run from July 7 to August 14. News10 ABC
- ➤ Nearly 50 HVCC students were honored for academic excellence during an awards ceremony held by the Education and Social Science Department. They received awards for strong academic writing, scholarship, and research (including courses in sociology, psychology, and education). WNYT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Schenectady County Legislature approved a resolution to boost ambulance services by entering into a Mutual Aid Ambulance Agreement with Rotterdam EMS that will add a dedicated ambulance staffed by one paramedic and one EMT from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day to shorten response times. Local union leaders criticized the move + said relying on a non-union provider might weaken service quality in areas with high mutual aid calls. CBS 6 Albany
