ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 17-year-old girl died after a dirt bike crash on Friday night in Central Park near Duck Pond Road when she struck a chain barrier and was taken to Ellis Hospital—police noted the incident is under investigation while neighbors say illegal dirt bikes have been a longstanding concern.  News10 ABC
  • On May 19 at 9:30 a.m., a car hit a NY HELP truck near Exit 7E on 787— the driver was ticketed and sustained minor injuries— police are investigating as the road has reopened.  WNYT
  • A 17-year-old girl died when she crashed her dirt bike into a chain barrier at Central Park on Friday near Duck Pond Road (officers arrived just before 9 p.m. and took her to Ellis Hospital where she died) as the investigation continues.  CBS 6 Albany

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the Scotia-Glenville Mock Trial Club is showing its legal skills in a state competition at the James Foley Federal Courthouse in Albany, where it competes against eight teams with winners to be announced tomorrow. The club’s founder — senior Nicole Fernandez — leads the team with guidance from attorney Jason Frament as she pursues her goal of becoming an attorney.  CBS 6 Albany
  • Today, voters in Schenectady County and the Capital Region will decide on dozens of proposed school budgets—this vote will shape local school funding.  The Daily Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal budget plan cleared by the House Budget Committee would cut nearly $880 billion from Medicaid over the next decade—potentially causing up to 1.5 million New Yorkers to lose coverage.
