- ➤ After a $250,000 federal grant was canceled, the Schenectady Greenmarket lost funding needed for food access and vendor support. The market will hold a fundraiser called Sowing Seeds of Change tonight at 6 p.m. at Arthur's Market + tickets cost $45 and online donations are accepted. WNYT

- ➤ Dr. Alexandra R. Paul '07 was honored by the Women’s Business Council of the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce with a Women of Excellence Award for excellence in the professions — she is a neurosurgeon at Albany Med Health System. Union College
- ➤ Rite Aid announced it will close over 300 stores — including those on Market Street in Amsterdam, Central Avenue in Colonie and Hoosick Street in Troy — following its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The closures add to over 100 planned store shutdowns and will affect pharmacy services previously sold to competitors. CBS 6 Albany

- ➤ Over 100 Schenectady students learned water safety and drowning prevention skills at the Glenville YMCA program on Thursday — a timely effort as summer approaches. - ➤ Walmart was fined $16,000 after its third-party sellers shipped nine realistic-looking toy guns that violate New York law to customers, the New York attorney general’s office said—Walmart must now stop allowing these imitation guns to be sold to New York buyers. News10 ABC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Gary McCarthy announced that Schenectady now uses TempShield—a wearable thermometer that tracks patients' temperatures 24/7—in an innovative study at Roswell Park Care Network at Ellis Medicine. The study showed early detection cut infection-related deaths by 90% and hospital days by 79% in cancer patients as part of the Stay Well Program. CBS 6 Albany
- ➤ A new COVID variant is spreading in the U.S. including New York, and new federal rules are confusing families as fall booster shots will be limited to older adults and people with certain health needs (official guidance is not final).
