ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews responded to an active fire at 42 Gates Avenue in the Victory Mills section of Schuylerville last Saturday afternoon—officials have not released additional details.  WNYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The inaugural Capital Region Festival of Theatre will host a four-day celebration scheduled for June across the region—from Fort Salem to Albany—that highlights local theatre companies, performers, playwrights, designers and technicians. Festival organizers said the event will boost the local arts scene and offer diverse opportunities for theatre fans.  News10 ABC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Union College faced lower enrollment for the class of 2029 and will make budget changes because fewer international students mean less tuition revenue. College officials will cut non-compensation spending by 10%—and lower retirement contributions to 8%—while upgrading facilities to attract students and help close a $5.5 million gap next year, and they remain hopeful about the future.  Concordiensis

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced Saturday that New York has expanded the Volunteer Firefighter Training Stipend program to reimburse costs for Basic Wildland Fire Suppression training—this expansion provides a $250 reimbursement per student and helps local volunteer firefighters gain the essential skills offered by DEC and DHSES. Fire departments should contact their County Fire Coordinator to schedule a course.  CBS 6 Albany
