- ➤ Union College faced lower enrollment for the class of 2029 and will make budget changes because fewer international students mean less tuition revenue. College officials will cut non-compensation spending by 10%—and lower retirement contributions to 8%—while upgrading facilities to attract students and help close a $5.5 million gap next year, and they remain hopeful about the future. - ➤ Governor Kathy Hochul announced Saturday that New York has expanded the Volunteer Firefighter Training Stipend program to reimburse costs for Basic Wildland Fire Suppression training—this expansion provides a $250 reimbursement per student and helps local volunteer firefighters gain the essential skills offered by DEC and DHSES.
