COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Emmy-winning anchor Tom Bosco (2-time Emmy winner) debuted at CBS6 on June 1 after nearly two decades at a Columbus station. He now anchors evening newscasts and joins the investigative unit (boosting community-focused reporting).  CBS 6 Albany

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, fires on Campbell Avenue and Lancaster Street displaced 18 residents and damaged buildings now scheduled for emergency demolition, with the Red Cross aiding affected residents and officials urging safety checks (fire crews are investigating the cause of an explosion).  CBS 6 Albany

CULTURE NEWS

  • Union College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Tim Olsen, will open the Jazz on Jay series on June 4 at Jay Square (across from City Hall) with performances of big band classics. The free series runs Thursdays until Aug. 27, moving indoors to Proctors Arcade if weather is poor.  Union College
  • The Schenectady Heritage Foundation awarded grants to seven local projects in a tradition spanning more than 30 years. One project was from outside the city while four served the Stockade Historic District.  The Daily Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • National Grid crews are upgrading Rotterdam Substation today by replacing circuit breakers, sets of switches & a main bus to increase power capacity. The teams are using an amphibious Fat Truck to navigate soft, wet terrain and speed up access to key equipment.  CBS 6 Albany

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A statewide survey of nearly 600 education professionals showed that phone-free classrooms helped students focus, promote positive behavior, and build social connections—results that confirmed Gov. Hochul’s initiative. The survey was reported at the end of the school year in New York schools.  CBS 6 Albany
  • The YMCA is partnering with local schools to present the Safety Around Water program (teaching kids essential water safety skills to prevent accidents) today in Schenectady.  The Daily Gazette
