COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Capital District YMCA is gearing up for summer by adding a mobile unit called ‘Y on the Fly’ that will be unveiled on Monday, June 16—this new effort builds on its 25-year Teen Nite program initiated to keep kids active and off the streets. Youth Outreach Director David Graham said more details will be released soon—promising an expanded outreach effort for the community.  News10 ABC

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 10, medically-retired Army veteran and single father Nick Gerace saw his apartment flood when a bullet hit the sprinkler line at Ellsworth Commons during a domestic incident that left 37-year-old Brendon R. Moore dead, and he has since raised funds for a new home.  The Daily Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • RPI hosted an immersive art event that turned voices and sounds into digital images. International artist David Rokeby led interactive demonstrations that allowed attendees to watch their spoken words become visual art—highlighting how AI is changing creative expression.  CBS 6 Albany

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A record seven students earned valedictorian status at Union College with a perfect 4.0 GPA—marking a high academic achievement for the Class of 2025. They will move on to careers and further studies in fields like engineering, public history and finance—setting the stage for their next chapters.  Union College

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York legislators passed the Alexander John Smullen Traffic Safety Memorial Law that will establish memorial signs for fatal collision victims. The law, named for AJ Smullen who died after being hit by a car in February 2024, now awaits Gov. Hochul's signature + implementation statewide.  CBS 6 Albany

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital extended its pet therapy program to include staff, allowing them to meet registered therapy dogs during set lunch breaks to ease work stress—three months into the program, staff report improved morale as the dogs complete annual health screenings under the Rock Dog program.  CBS 6 Albany
