BUSINESS NEWS

  • Price Chopper/Market 32 has proposed to build a new 42,000-square-foot production facility in Rotterdam Corporate Park that will serve as a central commissary for preparing fresh baked goods and other foods, and if approved, the $12 million project will create over 100 new jobs—its design supports a gradual expansion to the chain’s other stores. The Schenectady Metroplex Board approved a resolution for a public hearing on June 11, and construction is expected to begin soon with the facility becoming operational this coming fall.  News10 ABC

CRIME NEWS

  • A 14-year-old from Watervliet was charged with attempted murder after she repeatedly stabbed another youth on June 12 near 13th Street and 2nd Avenue - the victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.  WNYT
  • Police found a dead body at an abandoned building at 760 Albany St. around noon— they are investigating the case.  WNYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers did not vote on Christopher and Deanna's Law as they adjourned for the year, leaving unfinished business on a measure named for two Shenendehowa High students killed in a 2012 Northway crash. Bill sponsor John McDonald said the law would require parole board members to view recorded victim impact statements before voting on paroles—he added that the measure has Senate support and may be implemented via regulation.  CBS 6 Albany
  • New York lawmakers introduced a bill to rename the Patroon Island Bridge as the Sgt. Henry Johnson Memorial Bridge — the change would honor the local war hero who earned the Medal of Honor during World War I and fought bravely in France.  CBS 6 Albany
