- ➤ The Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady will host its second annual disc golf tournament at Central Park on Saturday, July 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds for Camp Lovejoy; participants may register as singles for $50 or as a foursome for $140. CBS 6 Albany
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Schenectady man, Dinesh Gobinlall, 23, is accused of driving drunk and crashing into a home at 1035 VanVelson St.—around 3:30 a.m. on July 5—the crash caused the building to catch fire, though firefighters put out the blaze and no serious injuries were reported while he faces charges of DWI, reckless driving and criminal mischief. - ➤ A Rensselaer man, Angel Madera, 30, was indicted for conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute drugs after New York State Police arrested him in March when troopers found eight pounds of cocaine on him and another suspect who allegedly planned to bring the drugs from New York City to Schenectady — his trial has not yet been set. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Schenectady residents are asking for a rehearing on the Board of Zoning Appeals' approval of a Starbucks drive-thru on busy Erie Boulevard because they worry it will affect walkability and safety. City officials will review the plans at a meeting tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CBS 6 Albany
- ➤ The U.S. Postal Service will hold six job fairs in July in Albany, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties to fill City Carrier Assistant and Rural Carrier Associate positions with wages starting at $19.33 and $20.38 per hour. Applicants must be 18 or older, have weekend and holiday availability, and pass background and drug screening tests — they can apply online through the USPS website. News10 ABC

- ➤ Vanderheyden received a $275K grant from the New York State Office of Mental Health to expand its Youth and Family Peer Advocate workforce in counties including Schenectady + the funds will help train new advocates with stipends and job bonuses. CBS 6 Albany
