CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 61-year-old Schenectady man, Joseph Munafo, pleaded guilty to recording over 1,000 intimate photos and videos of a coworker without her knowledge between July and October 2023 — he is scheduled to be sentenced on September 5 and could face a state prison sentence of 2 to 6 years. CBS 6 Albany
- ➤ An Averill Park woman, Corrine Bradley, 49, was arrested on June 30 for allegedly stealing over $325,000 from a private business in Rensselaer County—she now faces charges for second-degree grand larceny, possession of a forged instrument and first-degree falsifying business records. News10 ABC
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ New York State will mail inflation refund checks to over 8 million residents in October if they filed a 2023 Form IT-201 and were not claimed as dependents—using information from their tax returns. Refund amounts will be $200, $150, or $400—depending on income and filing status. News10 ABC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $19 million project that improved the Thruway in Albany and Schenectady counties as construction began in April and repairs were made to 40 lane miles; the project fixed pavement, replaced asphalt, and upgraded shoulders, U-Turns, and bridge joints — changes that benefited roughly 40,000 daily motorists and was completed on time and on budget. - ➤ Ray Gillen retired as the county's economic development commissioner and now serves as chair of the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority—where he continues to guide local economic planning. The Daily Gazette
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Ava Strong Foundation will host its second annual Warm Winter Wonderland fundraiser on July 24 at Duo at the Dunes in Albany to raise money for juvenile arthritis awareness—an event inspired by local five-year-old Ava St. Martin who was diagnosed with the disease. WNYT
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Red Cross held a blood drive at Rivers Casino in Schenectady that collected 43 units of blood from 41 donors and will help save nearly 130 lives—each donor received a pair of American Red Cross sunglasses by Goodr. WNYT
