  • Operation at Ease, a nonprofit that helps veterans and law enforcement workers with PTSD by matching them with shelter dogs, celebrates its 10th anniversary as founder Joni Bonilla said the idea began when a veteran friend lost his pet+ the program works with local shelters like Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.  WNYT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Schenectady motorcyclist, 32, died in a Glenmont crash around 5 p.m. Monday when an SUV crossed the center line on Route 9W and Corning Hill Road — he was pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center while the SUV driver was not hurt and police believe the driver was at fault.  WNYT

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 15, Schenectady man Russell Piper, 24, was sentenced to five years in prison after admitting to carrying a loaded Glock 9 mm modified to fire automatically during an e-bike stop near Second Street and Henry Johnson Boulevard — police found 24.7 grams of crack-cocaine and he was also given three years of probation.  News10 ABC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York officials issued a consumer alert to warn military members and their families about scams that cost them $584 million last year+ scammers used trickery in online sales, imposter scams, and fake investments. Officials advised service members to use free credit monitoring and a renewable Active-Duty Alert to help protect their finances.  News10 ABC

HEALTH NEWS

  • During June, Stewart’s Shops partnered with the American Red Cross to run the 'Give a Pint, Get a Pint' campaign — all blood donors received free pints of ice cream. The month-long effort drew 10,479 donors and collected enough blood to treat 30,000 patients.  News10 ABC
