  • Diana Izquierdo, a U.S. Army specialist and mother of three in Schenectady, will receive a refurbished car today at 1:30 p.m. at Midas in Schenectady—donated in partnership with Advanced Auto Parts—to help her overcome hardships and meet her family's transportation needs.  CBS 6 Albany

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stewart’s Shops opened a new 4,000-square-foot store at 1100 Highbridge Road in Rotterdam on July 8 as a $2.8 million investment just off I-890. The shop will celebrate its grand opening on Friday, July 25 by offering specials such as fuel discounts, free cones, and discounted food items—along with a $1,500 donation to CREATE Community Studios.  News10 ABC

CRIME NEWS

  • Julia Servin, 22, was sentenced in Schenectady County Court on July 17 for repeatedly shaking an almost five-month-old infant—she faces six years in state prison while the baby, who suffered brain and retinal hemorrhages and was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, is receiving outpatient care.  News10 ABC
  • Quirino Rotondo, owner of Metro Industrial Wrecking & Environmental Construction, was sentenced to 12 months in prison and two years of supervised release—he must also pay $1,235,804 in restitution after pleading guilty to eight counts of tax evasion that misclassified high-risk demolition workers after a fatal accident.  CBS 6 Albany

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SUNY Chancellor John B. King visited Schenectady County Community College on Thursday during his SUNY Reconnect Tour and toured the new E-sports area. The free program will offer tuition and supplies to adults aged 25 to 55 (AI, manufacturing, healthcare, and teaching as key fields) and will start this fall.  News10 ABC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Stephen Gilbert is hosting a cornhole tournament this Sunday at noon at Wolf Hollow Brewing in Schenectady to raise funds for muscular dystrophy research and awareness. He organized the event after the Albany Muscular Dystrophy Association stopped operating and said it will include food and music from Hair of the Dog.  CBS 6 Albany
