- ➤ The Tri-City ValleyCats will host 'Tunnel to Towers' night Tuesday, August 5 at Joe Bruno Stadium with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.—the game will serve as a fundraiser to support veterans, first responders and their families. The event will honor Rensselaer army national guardsman Jacob Pratt, the sole survivor of a military helicopter crash in Texas last year—his family spoke with reporters for the first time since the crash. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Edward Leon—long associated with the investigation into the fatal 2013 Schenectady arson that killed four and injured Safyre Terry—has been charged in connection with the case today. The Daily Gazette
- ➤ Schenectady police arrested Edward Leon on a charge of malicious use of fire to destroy property after video showed him near the 438 Hulett Street home in May 2013 where a fire killed David Terry and his three children while one child survived—Leon was known to investigators—he now faces charges. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local governments in New York collected $11.9 billion in sales tax during the first six months of 2025—an increase of 3.7% over last year—and Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli warned that future revenue may be less predictable due to federal policy changes and inflation. News10 ABC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ In February, Capital Region child Edith Ann Wagner became very sick with the flu and was rushed to the hospital before an emergency flight to Boston led doctors to remove her hands and feet due to dangerous blood clots. Now back home, she is learning to walk and use prosthetic hands while a GoFundMe helps her family with medical bills — her determination shows she will keep fighting. News10 ABC
