CRIME NEWS

  • Edward Leon was arrested Thursday on Hulett Street and now faces charges for a 2013 Schenectady house fire that killed three children and a father—he could receive the death penalty while the sole survivor Sa’fyre Terry, now 17, recovers from severe burns.  WNYT
  • Neighbors near 438 Hulett Street say the area has not been the same since a 2013 fire killed four family members, and Edward Leon—who was previously jailed for lying to a grand jury—is now indicted for using fire to cause death and is set to appear in court on August 6 with a trial scheduled for Sept. 29.  News10 ABC
  • Clifton Park man Thomas Carson, 60, was arrested by Saratoga County Deputies on Wednesday for allegedly threatening a deputy with a knife during another incident — he now faces charges of menacing a police officer, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and dangerous instrument possession after a prior conviction.  News10 ABC
  • Anthony Lewis Jr. was convicted on two counts of first-degree murder—stemming from the July 4, 2023, stabbing deaths of his mother, Cathy Ayala-Guillaume, and his stepfather, Robert Guillaume—and he received a sentence of life with no parole in Rotterdam.  The Daily Gazette

  • Schenectady City School District's elementary theatre camp invited students in 3rd to 5th grade to rehearse 'Go Fish: The Musical'—a production performed Friday—to showcase their work in the performing arts.  The Daily Gazette

  • An acting state Supreme Court judge rejected a request to move the St. Clare’s pensioners case, so the November trial against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany will stay in Schenectady County—ensuring the trial remains local.  The Daily Gazette
