ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A watermain break near Union St. and Nott Terrace in Schenectady yesterday blocked a section of road—repair crews worked to fix the break while the miSci museum closed for repairs.  CBS 6 Albany

CRIME NEWS

  • A Schenectady man was sentenced on Thursday to 16 years in prison—plus supervision after his release—for using an AR15 rifle to shoot a man in Halfmoon last January, injuring the victim's leg and hand.  WNYT
  • A Schenectady man, Justin Wagner, was sentenced to 16 years in state prison by a Saratoga County judge for firing an AR-15 during a personal dispute in Halfmoon on January 4th that injured a man — he will also serve post-release supervision and face a stay-away order until 2049.  CBS 6 Albany
  • A Rotterdam woman named Qingqin Xie—known as Coco—was arrested on Wednesday after raids at Moon Spa in Rotterdam and Sun Spa in Waterford and is accused of running a prostitution operation across five counties including Schenectady while she is set to appear for a detention hearing at 2 p.m. in Albany.  WNYT
  • A Schenectady man was convicted in county court for the execution-style killing of Leroy Chisom at a boarding house on Oct. 22nd, 2023—Jeffrey Bashaw, age 56, faces sentencing on Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m. while his accomplice Kevin Dingle had pleaded guilty and been sentenced in October 2024.  WNYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fans will watch the cult classic film This Is Spinal Tap as Film Schenectady and Music Haven host a free screening beginning at 6 p.m. at 500 Iroquois Path—celebrating the film’s role in cinema history.  CBS 6 Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assemblymember Phil Steck, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie — along with Mayor Gary McCarthy — announced state funding for significant upgrades to the building at Woodlawn Park on Friday, August 22, which will include new lighting, resurfaced floors, freshly painted walls, new windows, updated heating and cooling systems, modernized bathrooms, enhanced doors, upgraded storage and a mini kitchen.  CBS 6 Albany
  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced $52.6 million in broadband awards that will connect 6,900 locations—including 24,000 households and 19,000 affordable housing units—with new fiber and wireless hubs across the state. The funding includes a $3.36 million project in the Greater Albany area to deploy hybrid fiber-fixed wireless networks to offer affordable service in Schenectady.  CBS 6 Albany
