BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local cybersecurity provider LogicalNet will host its fourth annual Cybersecurity Symposium on October 14 at Rivers Casino and Resort to help business leaders learn how to protect their data online. CEO Tush Nikollaj shared personal security tips during an interview—registration for the event remains subject to approval.  CBS 6 Albany

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The USDA forecasts beef production will drop by 4% this year and 2% next year as rising costs from a smaller cattle supply push prices to record highs—local ranchers and experts explain the trend.  CBS 6 Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hochul announced that inflation refund checks of up to $400 will be mailed to 8.2 million New York households starting today and delivery will continue into October and November—eligible filers receive checks automatically without signing up.  CBS 6 Albany
  • The DEC announced today that bowhunting for deer in the Northern Zone starts today and that bowhunting for deer and bear in the Southern Zone will begin on October 1 — new rules now let hunters use crossbows without previous limits. Hunters must secure proper licenses and permits; the Deer Management Permit deadline is October 1 and the Youth Big Game Hunt is set for October 11—13.  CBS 6 Albany
  • Candidates for Rotterdam Town Supervisor and Town Board shared their vision and experience at a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Schenectady County. They detailed plans to improve local government and address community needs.  The Daily Gazette
  • Assemblymember Mary Beth Walsh discussed Governor Hochul’s bipartisan efforts to counter political violence — including plans to change state criminal justice reforms such as Raise the Age and Bail Reform. She also spoke as Minority floor leader and Family Court attorney about adjustments to the Draft Energy Plan process and parts of the Climate Law.  CBS 6 Albany
