CRIME NEWS
- ➤ CBS6 aired a panel discussion Monday at 5:30 p.m. on New York’s animal cruelty laws after disturbing cases—including a Schenectady dog with its ear cut off—sparked public concern as local law enforcement and lawmakers examined if current laws can stop abuse. CBS 6 Albany
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Assemblymember Romero awarded a $30,000 grant to the Underground Railroad Education Center to start a museum program for high school students led by Lacey Wilson—who said the program offers lessons in art, history and science. The grant comes after federal funding cuts caused local groups to lose funds and is meant to help preserve history. CBS 6 Albany
- ➤ Denise Krohn, whose two dogs were shot during a 2016 burglary, is urging lawmakers to pass Kirby and Quigley’s Law to hold people accountable for harming animals during other crimes—she is backed by Senator Jim Tedisco and Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. She says the law is needed since the statute of limitations stopped charges in her case and she plans to continue her fight with her dog Tedi by her side. WNYT
