  • Market 32/Price Chopper have announced initiatives to help local families facing food insecurity due to SNAP benefits issues - they will offer increased discounts on 30 high-demand grocery items until November 8 and collect pre-packed food bags for local food banks while directing $10,000 to the United Way Government Shutdown Relief Fund.   • Lily P's Wood Fired Pizza Company held its grand opening inside Frog Alley Brewing this weekend in Schenectady. Owner Bashir Chedrawee moved into the former Annabel's location (1,500-square-foot) and now serves pizzas, burgers and sandwiches.  WNYT

  • A civil trial started today at Schenectady County Supreme Court as over 1,000 former St. Clare's Hospital employees say mismanagement led to a $50 million pension shortfall.   • Monday—the 34th day of the government shutdown—nearly 21,000 Schenectady residents faced problems as SNAP benefits stayed off, and local leaders said federal plans to bring food aid back may take weeks while urging community food providers to help families. Community groups and local farms reported that the delay continues to affect both children and businesses across the county.  CBS 6 Albany
  • Advocates in the Capital Region reported that a lapse in SNAP benefits has left many residents without needed support. They urge state officials to act fast to restore the program (local groups emphasize the urgency).  The Daily Gazette
