  • Food pantries in the Capital Region report increased need amid a government shutdown and a pause on SNAP benefits — CAPTAIN at 5 Municipal Plaza in Clifton Park is urging residents who need help to reach out ahead of the holidays.  WNYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Department of Agriculture and Markets announced a $2.5 million grant to expand community gardens at Pitney Meadows and Schenectady schools—funding that will support urban farming and provide more local produce opportunities.  The Daily Gazette
  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced Friday that the last free fishing day for 2025 will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11 to honor Veterans—anglers can fish for free in New York’s freshwater waters while following all fishing rules. This day is part of the Get Offline, Get Outside initiative to encourage families to enjoy nature and remember those who served.  CBS 6 Albany
