CRIME NEWS

  • Julio Duran, a 23-year-old wanted for fleeing parole on a weapons conviction, was arrested in Schenectady after a standoff with police.  The Daily Gazette
  • A Schenectady man, previously employed by the Niskayuna Central School District, pleads guilty to charges of promoting a sexual performance by a child and is set to serve up to 14 years in prison.  CBS 6 Albany
  • A sizable police operation involving armored units, drones, and negotiators was reported in Schenectady around Paige and Mumford streets.  WNYT
  • A Schenectady man, Elijah Lewis, pleads guilty to aggravated animal cruelty for fatally beating a puppy and is set to be sentenced to 2 years in prison, banned from owning pets for 100 years, and required to pay restitution.  WNYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scotia-Glenville's athletic director, Jamian Rockhill, is on leave amid concerns over department management, with a team of administrators temporarily overseeing athletics.  The Daily Gazette
  • Schenectady High School will implement new safety protocols, including the installation of metal detectors costing $618,000, when students return after December break.  CBS 6 Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Schenectady will implement a new bulk item trash program starting Jan. 1, requiring residents to purchase stickers to dispose of large items, with certain items priced at $15 and others at $10.  The Daily Gazette
