  • The Department of Veterans Services launched Healing Haven, an online wellness seminar where military spouses meet over Zoom twice each month to share their experiences. The program started this month and will add in-person events next year (registration is open for all interested).  CBS 6 Albany
  • On Christmas morning, Kelly McFarland found a small Yorkie-poo abandoned near the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail and took it to an emergency vet after noticing wounds* Rotty Empire Rescue has now claimed the dog to secure a loving home.  CBS 6 Albany

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAlbany’s RNA Institute has been awarded $50M to expand labs, add space, and integrate AI into research for diseases including Alzheimer’s, cancer, and genetic conditions. The project will be completed by 2030 and may bring more research opportunities & jobs to the Capital Region.  CBS 6 Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hochul signed a law that requires social media platforms with addictive features to display warning labels for young users (to highlight mental health risks), a measure aimed at curbing prolonged digital use based on recent studies.  CBS 6 Albany
  • New York AG Letitia James secured a $500,000 penalty from OrthopedicsNY after an investigation found the practice failed to protect data for over 650,000 patients. The company must also offer a year of free credit monitoring and upgrade its security measures.  CBS 6 Albany
