About this event

Author Rick Cobello will join us to discuss his debut novel, The Shady Side of Saratoga. Enjoy a bagel, meet the author, and hear more about the story behind his new book.

The Shady Side of Saratoga draws directly from this background and his close association with history and horses. The novel's portrayal of "polite" system failures, institutional blind spots, and crimes hidden inside compliance reflects Cobello's personal experience with how modern organizations actually fail-and how sophisticated actors exploit systems designed to look trustworthy. His fiction explores a central question shaped by a lifetime inside those systems: what happens when crime no longer looks like crime, and accountability arrives too late to stop the damage.

Rick Cobello lives in upstate New York, where horses, history, tradition, and modern infrastructure overlap in ways both beautiful and dangerous. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
